Dental Implants
A dental implant is a prosthesis that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis.
An orthodontic anchor or dental prosthesis that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis is known as a dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture). The biological process of osseointegration, in which materials like titanium or zirconia develop a close link with the bone, provides the foundation for contemporary dental implants.
A dental prosthetic is added after the implant fixture has been positioned so that it is likely to osseointegrate. Before the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge, or denture) is linked to the implant or an abutment is constructed that will hold a denture, osseointegration must undergo a varying period of healing time.
