Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride Treatment

The American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) asserts that fluoride has been scientifically demonstrated to be a safe and efficient treatment option when applied by medical experts.

Patients frequently assume that fluoride treatments at dental visits are solely for children, but we also provide fluoride treatments for adults, which can be highly beneficial. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that whereas untreated decay in children has decreased, decay in adults has increased, despite the fact that youngsters are still at risk for cavities and dental decay. This is due to the fact that as we age, our teeth become more prone to the bacteria that causes tooth and root decay. Through a process known as tooth re-mineralization, in which administered fluoride is absorbed into teeth and replaces lost minerals that make our teeth hard, fluoride has been shown to protect teeth from decay by rebuilding weaker tooth surfaces. Fluoride can strengthen teeth to fend off decay in the future, but it can also aid in stopping early deterioration and avoiding the need for fillings. Fluoride is advantageous for adults because as we age, our teeth weaken and become more vulnerable to decay. Even while re-mineralization happens naturally every day in our mouths as we age, the process is less effective. Other risk factors may hinder natural re-mineralization as well as increase the amount of bacteria that causes tooth decay in our mouths.
