Dental amalgam, sometimes described as “silver-colored” fillings, is made from a combination of metals that include mercury, silver, tin, and copper and once was one of the most common materials used to fill cavities.

When a tooth is decayed, a filling can restore it to its usual function and shape while also halting further deterioration. There is no need to be concerned because it is also one of the most frequent treatments done in dental offices. Dental fillings are synthetic materials that are used to close up cracks or holes in the enamel of teeth that are decaying, cracked, or otherwise compromised.

Generally, there are four types of fillings used in dentistry, Gold fillings, Amalgam (silver) fillings, Composite resins (look like your natural teeth) and Porcelain filings, also called inlays/onlays that are custom made in a lab and then bonded on to your natural teeth.
